The purple fire team from Mount St Michael Claremorris are creating their own little piece of history by becoming the first girls team from the area to enter the national F1 competition, sponsored by Honda and run by the Irish Computer Society.
The girls are designing and making their own formula 1 model car. This is the third year of the competition here in Ireland and 150 teams from 22 counties are competing for the coveted prizes. "We hope to set the track on fire!" comments team member, Rebecca McKittrick. The other members of the Mount St Michael are Rebecca Kean, Vicky Lynch, Emma McHugh, Emma Loftus and Margaret Hughes.

Mid West Radio Thursday 13th March:
We got an interview with MWR to tell all of Mayo about our PurpleFire team and F1inschools competition. To make the all-Ireland Finals is a dream come true. It was an outside broadcast unit at GLYNNS hardware Offical opening which was done by Duncan Stewart.
Not many people know what the “F1 in schools” challenge is so I’ll tell you about it. We had to design a miniature car from piece of balsa wood. We sent the designs away to be built {we are waiting for them to send it back to us} and when it is we will design and paint the exterior. We also have to apply the wheels onto the car.
The car can reach a high speed of 150 m/hr .We will be competing in the regionals on March 11 in Sligo, hoping to get through to the All Ireland in Dublin unfortunately juniors can’t take part in the world championship... That’s only for the seniors.

CLAREMORRIS LOCAL RADIO
Rebecca and Vicky had an interview with host Andrew Finn on Wednesday night at 9 pm ." It was a really good experence but we were really nervous, it was really funny as well said rebecca and vicky .
we hope to put up a bit of the intervirw on our site shortly".
But none the less all of us are delighted to be able to take part and be the first girl’s team to represent Claremorris. We went to companies to ask for sponsorship {and are still going round to some companies} so that all the financial needs can be met. Financial needs such as transport, the entry fee and of course publicity.
The competition is not only based on speed but teamwork, design and more. We have come up with the name Purple Fire and we are expecting to “heat up the competition” and maybe even have some beginners luck!
We would like to say a big thank you to all sponsors and all donations are welcome! {Hint hint} Also please check out our website at: - . Our email address is: purplefire@eircom.net
By Rebecca Mc Kittrick Publicist manager,
Duncan Stewart liked our car. He was impressed by its aero-dynamics. He is a nice man with good taste.
We got our Photo taken at the end. Glynns also sponsored us. Thank you Glynns!! next
